KUCHING, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- Traders who organise a sale without permit
can face RM100,000 fine and three years in jail under the Trade
Descriptions Act, Sarawak Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism
Ministry director Wan Ahmad Uzir Wan Sulaiman said.

He said the permit was to prevent consumers from being cheated by such
an activity which only aimed at increasing the traders' sales.
"Among the conditions to organise a sale are that the traders must
ensure that no less than 70 per cent of their goods are put on display
during the sale, submit the prices of goods before and during the sale,
and hold the sale for at least a month."
He said this to reporters after the launch of state-level 'Back To
School Sale' promotion and price reduction campaign by Sarawak Federal
Secretary Datuk Md Yahya Basimin here today.
Wan Ahmad Uzir said a total of 1,134 sale permits were issued, while
692 cases of traders organising sale activities without permit were
detected in the state between January and November this year.
