Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar said
that during an SMI product exhibition organised by the ministry in
Morocco and Romania recently, the media faced problems in promoting
Malaysian products as there were just too many brands.
"Currently, there are 64 products under the Agromas brand and the number
will be increased to 250 by 2020," he told reporters after visiting the
Fama food processing centre in Sungai Terap, here, Monday.
The Sungai Terap processing centre can produce one tonne of tapioca chips and one tonne of spice products per month.
However, Noh said the present tapioca supply was still insufficient to meet the demand by the SMIs to produce tapioca chips.
"Supply had to be obtained from Indonesia but unfortunately, the tapioca
that arrived could not be processed because they did not meet the
standard required," he said.
Noh has also asked FAMA to set up more food processing centres like the
one in Sungai Terap which is fully equipped with machinery including for
packaging and labelling, to enable SMI entrepreneurs to enhance their
competitiveness.
