Its director, Sharuddin Jali said the move was taken to curb price
increases for commodities such as sugar, wheat flour, oil and eggs which
can create panic among consumers.
"Other agencies such as the Anti-Smuggling Unit, the Royal Customs and
Immigration will jointly take measures to prevent smuggling and monitor
the prices of controlled items," he told reporters here today, adding
that a total of 371 cases involving seizures of price-controlled items
were reported in the state reported last year.
"As of April this year, 52 cases were reported which shows a reduction
due to the enhanced enforcement, while last month, Pasir Mas KPDNKK
solved a total of five cases under the Supply Control Act 1961 involving
fuel and wheat flour meant to be smuggled to Thailand," he said.
He said anyone with information about smuggling activities and price
increases can contact the hotline at 1-800-886-800 or via the short
messaging service by typing KPDNKK ADUAN and send to 15888.
