Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) inspection and
consultation division director Datuk Mohd Yusof Akope said the
distribution of 2,155 lots at DBKL Ramadan bazaar sites in the city had
been conducted smoothly from May 28 to 31 and was closely monitored by
the MACC.
He said this was because the DBKL had taken proactive measures in the
distribution of the lots this year, including abolishing the special
quota for ministers, associations and non-governmental organisations and
the lots were distributed simply through lot draws.
Also, he said the DBKL had also compelled that only traders with valid business licence were allowed to apply for the lots.
"Therefore, no certain quarters had the privilege to get the Ramadan
bazaar lots. So far, no complaints were made to the MACC pertaining to
the distribution of the lots," he told a press conference here today.
Mohd Yusof said the MACC would continue to monitor the distribution
of the lots and convene a periodical meeting with the DBKL to prevent
possible corruption.
He also lauded the DBKL's initiative to compel sucessful traders to
sign the 'Akujanji Integriti Bazar Ramadan 2013' (Ramadan Bazaar
Integrity Pledge 2013) to not get involved in any acts of corruption.
"This is an effort to strengthen the traders' integrity. With the
pledge, the traders are obligated not commit any offence under the MACC
Act 2009," he added. - Bernama, July 9,2013.
