Poh Kong set to sparkle

A ROSY outlook awaits Poh Kong Holdings Bhd this year as the jeweller expects to maintain its market share and expand its reach in the country. Poh Kong marketing manager Elizabeth Choon said, for a start, the company plans to increase its reach nationwide with the opening of new outlets from the current 103 that it has in Peninsular Malaysia.

"We opened an online store at Rakuten on November 1 and, soon, we plan to have outlets in Kipmart Senawang and Wangsa Walk. For this year, by the first quarter we plan to open more stores in Giant USJ and Pandan Kapital.

"Our expansion on an annual basis is between three and five stores," Choon said in an interview with Business Times recently.

She said the company has no plans to expand to Sabah and Sarawak, or abroad.

Asked on buying gold for investment purposes, Choon said, "Gold investment is a long-term diversified investment. As the world demand (for gold) is higher than supply, the price is predicted to be higher in the future".

Poh Kong's other in-house brands include Tranz, Anggun, Auspicious, Happy Love and Bunga Raya gold bar, while its international brands are Moraglione 1922, Schoeffel, Luca Carati and Angel Diamond.

"For product design, our research and development is done at our own manufacturing plant which is purely based on innovation," Choon said

For 2013, she said, Poh Kong will be striving on continuous corporate branding via right, relevant sponsorships and campaigns.

"We created the 'Make Love Memoirs Campaign' last year which was a campaign to promote love expressions among the busy and shy Malaysians as well as providing platforms for creating beautiful moments which can be cherished for life," she said.

Moving forward, Poh Kong - the largest jewellery retail chain in Malaysia - plans to innovate and improve its brand.

"With retail expansion, it will increase retail professionalism by providing variety and value-added services to customers," Choon added.
