Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Rohani Abdul
Karim said the programme was conducted using the module of the Credit
Counselling and Debt Management Agency.
"Besides that, the ministry has made it compulsory for the equipment
recipients to undergo basic training on how to use and maintain the
equipment to ensure they fully benefit from the assistance provided."
Rohani said this after the handing-over of equipment to Perlis
recipients under the 1AZAM programme in Kampung Baru Sungai Serai, near
here, today.
She said the 1AZAM programme, which was aimed at uplifting the
socio-economy of the low-income group, was proof of the government's
commitment to its promises made to the people.
The government would continue with this programme as it had been
effective, especially for the AZAM Niaga programme that was aimed at
making the low-income group self-reliant, she added.
The minister said for the January 2011-December 2012 period, 106,947
people had participated in the 1AZAM programme involving an allocation
of RM1.2 billion. Out of this number, 1,416 of them are from Perlis with
an allocation of RM11 million received.
Rohani was happy to note that 71,079 if the recipients throughout the
country were able to raise their income by at least RM300 per month.
Earlier, Menteri Besar Azlan Man handed out basic equipment worth RM750,000 to 150 residents for them to start a business.
In conjunction with the handing-over ceremony, various activities were
held including an exhibition put up by the departments and agencies
under the ministry.
