DDEC, a Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) subsidiary set up in 2008, provides
design training and consultancy and collaborates with local designers to
improve the commercial quality of their products.
"DDEC aims to be the main one-stop centre for design in Malaysia," DDEC
Corporate Communications head Johan Termizi told Bernama here Tuesday.
Last month, DDEC collaborated with local brand Achtung! KL to open a
'Brandesign Bazaar' to help small, independent local designers sell
their products such as T-shirts, caps, bags and posters.
The bazaar, on Jalan Kia Peng in the city centre and next to the DDEC headquarters, operates daily for six months from March.
Mohd Nasir Abdul Rashid, director of the Achtung! KL brand (named after
the German word for 'attention!') said while most small local designers
sell their wares through social media such as Facebook and Instagram,
the bazaar could be a platform for them to promote their creations to a
wider public other than through the Internet.
Mohd Nasir, who has received orders from local musicians Ramli Sarip,
XPDC and Sweet Charity, said with good branding, even an expensive
product can be sold.
