Loan scheme helps trio to boost business

GEORGE TOWN: The 1MCA Micro Credit Loan Scheme for Youth continues to help out those who are in need, this time making the dreams of three young entrepreneurs come true. Each received RM20,000 to help develop their businesses.

Pharmacist Koay Wan Lee plans to use the money to expand her outlet, which she opened in 2007.

“I may also use some of the money to open a branch,” said the 35-year-old.

“I am really grateful to MCA,” she added.

For restaurateur Lim Chin Hua, the loan came as a timely “gift” as he had been planning to expand his food and beverage business.

“It is not easy to get loans from banks,” said the 27-year-old.

“As the business at my food outlet in Jelutong is getting better, I need to expand by accommodating more customers and providing a more varied menu,” he said.

The third recipient was Tan Kok Leong, 37.

State MCA deputy chairman Datuk Dr Loh Hock Hun presented the loans at the state par­­- ty headquarters in Pahang Road on Saturday.

He said to date, there had been 74 success­­-ful applicants who were given loans worth RM1.25mil in total.

“Nationwide, a total of 948 successful applicants have received loans amounting to RM16.65mil. The largest number of applicants came from Selangor (187), followed by Johor (152), Perak (143), Kuala Lumpur (113), Negri Sembilan (85), Malacca (77) and Penang (74), among others,” he said.

The scheme is open to Malaysians aged between 21 and 45, regardless of race, religion or political background.
