KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 (Bernama) -- Cooperatives in Terengganu have been
asked to venture into petroleum and tourism business which are seen as a
highly lucrative industry in the state.
State Executive Councillor for Cooperatives and Entrepreneurs Datuk
Mohamed Awang Tera said cooperatives should seize the opportunities in
the tourism sector as Terengganu was among the country's major tourist
haven.
"I hope more cooperatives in Terengganu will be involved in tourism
packages such as investing in homestay programmes and engaging people as
tour guides which are seen to be high revenue earners for the state and
the people.
"The state government has started the promotional blitz for Visit
Terengganu Year next year. The cooperatives can complement the efforts
by going into tourism-related businesses," he told reporters after
attending a Aidilfitri open house hosted by Koperasi Negeri Terengganu
here Thursday.
Mohamed said cooperatives in the state should also venture into
petroleum-based industries as the sector was among the prime industries
in Malaysia and was fast developing in the state.
