Malaysia Miliki Lebih 9,000 Koperasi Dengan Aset RM92.8 Bilion

Teks ucapan beliau dibacakan Pengarah MKM Sarawak Ngadi Robin.

Gold rally still has legs
Source from (The Star Online): http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/9/20/business/12051945&sec=business

PETALING JAYA: Industry executives say the stimulus measures brought on by the US Federal Reserve and European Central Bank (ECB) have yet to be fully priced into gold, despite the profit-taking that immediately followed the commodity's rally on Friday when it rose to its highest in seven months.
“Gold is not overbought at all. We think it still has room to appreciate,” said Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp Ltd analyst Barnabas Gan, who has an end-2012 target of US$1,800 to US$1,850 for bullion.
“The US dollar was prior to this our safe haven pick but with the rollout of QE3 (quantitative easing) last week we have shifted our focus to gold as the preferred store of value,” he told StarBiz.
Bullion peaked at US$1,777.51 on Friday, a day after the Federal Reserve announced its third round of quantitative easing.
Both the US central bank and ECB had since early September introduced plans for open-ended pump priming activities to rouse their economies, with the former committing to buy some US$40bil worth of mortgage-backed securities each month until its labour market improved, and the ECB saying it would purchase, without quantitative limits, sovereign bonds on the open market.
Although gold investors cashed in their gains over the past two days, spot gold yesterday briefly overtook its Friday high, climbing to US$1,779.39 per ounce. As at press time, it was up US$3 to US$1,774.25.
“Everytime there is a surge, it is followed by profit-taking. This is called a correction. But the trend we see is that prices are on an uptrend,” Poh Kong Holdings Bhd executive director Ermin Seow said at a briefing.
“Overall, the environment for gold is still quite bullish. Now that QE3 is out, many analysts believe gold can reach US$1,900, if not US$2000, by the end of the year,” Seow said, adding that Poh Kong's own forecast was a more conservative US$1,800 for this year and US$2,000 next year.
OSK Research technical analyst Mohammad Ashraf Abu Bakar also believes the underlying price trend for gold pointed upwards, though some selling was to be expected.
“The current resistance is pegged at US$1,800, the next level being US$1,900. The rally could continue for the next one month.
“The selling pressure, if you look at it, has actually not been able to keep prices down,” he said.
Factors such as ultra-low interest rates in the developed countries and sustained money printing by central banks have resulted in negative real returns for savers, spurring investors to turn to gold as a hedge against inflation.
However, OCBC's Gan noted that a caveat to this was more bad news from the eurozone, which would prompt a flight to safety to the dollar.
Meanwhile, Poh Kong's Seow said the combined sales of the country's three listed gold retailers, namely Poh Kong, Tomei Consolidated Bhd and DeGem Bhd, would likely moderate this year to the mid-teens from last year's 32% growth on the back of a high base.
An estimated 20 tonnes of gold were sold in Malaysia in 2011 worth some RM4bil, with the three players seizing RM1.5bil of the market.
Poh Kong had the largest share at 52% versus Tomei's 33% and DeGem's 15%, Seow explained.
On the outlook for Poh Kong's sales, Seow said its turnover for the first three quarters this year alone have surpassed last year's total sales.
“On an annualised basis, our full year revenue should be 20% to 25% higher than last year, Seow said, attributing this to its new outlets, growth in same store sales as well as higher gold prices.
Poh Kong is due to report its financial results for the fourth quarter ended July 31 next week.
The company may also set up shop in neighbouring countries when the Asean Economic Community comes into fruition in 2015, which would enable the duty-free flow of products within Asean, Seow added.
“At the moment we are almost 100% domestic and export very little of our gold. We are more retail-based and do not cater for export markets.
“We could tag along with our retail partners into Indonesia and Vietnam when they venture there.”

Harga emas dijangka melonjak

POH KONG Holdings Berhad menjangkakan harga emas mencecah RM6,121 setiap 28 gram tahun depan berikutan jumlah permintaan terus meningkat sebaliknya pengeluaran terus berkurangan.
“Malah, ia turut menjejaskan penjualan emas pelaburan kerana pelabur melihat ia bukan masa sesuai mendapatkan emas,” katanya.

Poh Kong sees gold prices hitting US$1,900 by year-end

PETALING JAYA (Sept 19, 2012): Poh Kong Holdings Bhd, which is expecting another record year of results in the current financial year ending July 31, 2012 (FY12), said global gold prices might go as high as US$1,900 per ounce by the end of the year, as debt woes in the US and Europe continue to spur demand for the safe-haven investment.
Its executive director Ermin Siow said industry analysts are predicting that the precious metal would be trading in the range of US$1,560 to US$1,920 per ounce this year. The price is currently hovering at US$1,770 an ounce.
The jeweller believes that gold price will hold firm until 2015 on the back of the US Federal Reserve's recent announcement that it would probably keep interest rates at record lows until at least mid-2015, which could put off investment in fixed-term deposits and savings accounts and boost demand for gold.
"It will never return to the US$300 to US$400 per ounce price levels in the 1980s. (In fact,) I expect the gold price to exceed US$2,000 an ounce next year," Siow said when giving the media an overview of gold demand trends here today.
Poh Kong expects its net profit and revenue for FY12 to grow between 20% and 25%, from RM41.6 million and RM692.5 million respectively in FY11, driven by a rise in gold prices, new outlets and higher sales from existing stores.
"In fact, our net profit for the three quarters of FY12 has already exceeded the total net profit achieved for the last financial year," said Siow. The group posted a net profit of RM41.7 million on revenue of RM625.4 million for the nine months ended April 30, 2012.
The group now has 101 outlets in the country, and is due to open one more by year-end. Gold jewellery contributes some 80% to Poh Kong's total revenue, and gems the balance.

Poh Kong eyes Asean marts

POH Kong Holdings Bhd, the country's largest jeweller by revenue and size, plans to open overseas outlets in Asean before 2015.
Executive director Ermin Siow said the company may establish outlets in Indonesia and Vietnam, to take advantage of the setting up of the Asean Economic Community (AEC) by 2015.
He said when the AEC is in place in three years' time, companies in the region will benefit from the free movement of goods, services, investment, labour and capital.
"Currently, there is a 5 per cent Common Effective Preferential Tariff on gold within Asean, which for jewellers, is quite high," he told a media briefing here, yesterday.
In Asean region, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam are among world's key gold markets.
Poh Kong, which will announce the results of its financial year ended July 31 2012 next week, is on track to report better performance.
Siow said by the third quarter, the company had already surpassed its 2011 results. For the year ended July 31 2011, Poh Kong reported a record net profit of RM41.21 million on the back of a RM692.42 million revenue.
He said based on an annualised basis, the company's revenue would be about 25 to 30 per cent higher than last year's.
The growth in sales was contributed by the opening of new outlets, high gold price and expansion of sales in existing outlets.
Poh Kong, which currently has 101 outlets in the country and will open one more in December, is cautiously optimistic of the outlook in 2013.
Siow said the company has survived previous economic crises and if there is no major change in the upcoming general elections results, Poh Kong can expect quite a rosy outlook next year given the anticipated increase in gold price.
On the global gold trend, Siow expects demand to increase for the next few years due to expectations that the US dollar and the euro will fall and that people will diversify their investments into gold.
Gold price is expected to reach US$1,800 to US$2,000 per ounce by end of this year from US$1,571 per ounce as at end of 2011.
"Demand is still more than supply, because even if the consumption of gold falls, the official purchase (by central banks) is likely to increase. So, I don't think the price will collapse," he said.
Malaysia exports between 50 and 60 tonnes of gold jewellery annually while domestic gold consumption is between 20 and 30 tonnes.
Siow said about 10 per cent of gold consumption in Malaysia is for investment and this figure is expected to increase.

Poh Kong expects revenue growth of between 25-30pc
PETALING JAYA, Sept 19 – Poh Kong Holdings Bhd, the largest retail

This is given the company’s encouraging performance in the first three quarters of its financial year.
“For the three quarters, we (Poh Kong) already exceeded the total revenue achieved for the last financial year.
“This was mainly contributed by the opening of new stores and an increase in sales at previously existing ones, as well as the rise in gold price,” said its Executive Director, Ermin Siow.
Speaking at a media briefing on the “Overview of Gold Demand Trends” here today, he said the company allocated 10 per cent of revenue for investment purposes.
On expansion, he said Poh Kong plans to showcase its products on the global market, in the near future.
“I think we will look at starting up retail outlets overseas first in Asean countries, before actually exporting our products,” he added. – Bernama

Gold Price To Rise To US$1,800 An Ounce By Year-end, Says Poh Kong
Source from (Bernama): http://www.bernama.com/bernama/v6/newsbusiness.php?id=695672
Published: September 19, 2012
PETALING JAYA, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- Poh Kong Holdings Bhd, the biggest jewellery retail chain in Malaysia, expects the price of gold in global markets to increase to US$1,800 an ounce by year-end on the back of growing sentiment toward security assets including gold.
Currently, gold is sold at US$1,770 an ounce (one ounce = 31.2 grammes).
Executive Director Ermin Siow said the price would remain bullish until 2015, and next year it would definitely exceed US$2,000 an ounce.
Speaking at a media briefing on "Overview of Gold Demand Trends" Wednesday, Siow said continued concerns over the U.S. economy and other major countries like China will certainly be the driver of gold prices in future.
"Although more than 60 per cent of world trade is transacted in the US dollar, the uncertain recovery of the US somehow puts limits on its gains," he said.

Information, the new gold dinar
Source from (Business Times): http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_News/BTIMES/articles/RUSHDI/Article/
Published: September 18, 2012
I RECENTLY had the opportunity to sit down with one of the leading experts in Malaysia on bond/sukuk valuations, Meor Amri Meor Ayob, chief executive officer of Bond Pricing Agency Malaysia (BPAM) Sdn Bhd.
He articulates some extremely important takeaways on the role and impact of information, from availability to transparency to credibility, on capital market development for both Islamic finance and Muslim countries.
We often hear about exporting Malaysia's Islamic finance model to jurisdictions wanting to be a complete financial hub. Malaysia may want to start with its flagship that measures the health and pulse of the fixed income market, BPA of Malaysia.
It's an interesting story that deserves an information spotlight.
The development of Malaysia's bond and sukuk markets were also precipitated similarly. Introduction of various regulatory guidelines on the issuance process, as well as key market infrastructures such as credit rating agencies, automated systems for tendering, issuance and transfers of funds (FAST and RENTAS) and a trading dissemination system have contributed immensely to the growth in supply and demand.
Sustaining such a growth requires a very good legal as well as price discovery mechanism to enable market participants to be well informed of valuation levels and their rights. In this regard, Malaysia has in placed a very good legal framework which has shown its impartiality as well as fairness.
However, the issue of valuation remains a very grey area. This factor
is very important as only with a strong valuation regime in place could
one confidently assess the performance of Malaysia's bond and sukuk
markets.
For the first time, market players have a valuation source that was established with the stated objective of being independent and conforming to the rules and regulations spelt out by the Securities Commission under the Bond Pricing Agency Guidelines 2006.
Despite having a regulatory based price discovery mechanism for market players, adoption of such a system requires a level of trust in the quality of output. For market players to be confident in the product, the highest level of excellence is a prerequisite for the service provider.
A formal feedback procedure must be made available to subscribers to query. The provider should also provide technical briefings as well as publish research papers to market players. These reactive and proactive measures can provide an invaluable insight into the valuation process.
The level of transparency helps build trust and confidence in the valuation system. This symbiotic relationship also helps the service provider to ensure its output is market relevant.
With eight years of data, there is now a treasure trove of information in BPA Malaysia. The company is now able to present data series as well as design sets of indicators that could effectively show the performance and risk levels of any portfolio of bonds and sukuk. Coupled with growing acceptance by more market players for the service, the bond and sukuk markets have forged forward with additional momentum.
This same price discovery system can also help revitalise the primary market for bonds and sukuk.
From an origination and underwriting perspective, primary level pricing becomes challenging especially for lower credits. Mark-to-market pricing on previously issued corporate bonds and sukuk can promote new issues by functioning as benchmarks for primary level pricing.
The clarity of price discovery and engagement between market players, promotes the depth and breadth of new product development. The availability of data and the buildup of market professionals will spur the evolution of the bond and sukuk markets. When advanced pricing methodologies are established, it will encourage more bond offerings and more active trading of these products in the secondary market.
The effect of such advancement also supports the work done in accounting as well as financial institution space. The availability of mark-to-market prices for bonds and sukuk from an independent bond pricing agency easily satisfies the requirements set by the accounting standards to value these particular financial assets on balance sheet.
The availability of market based credit curves now allow risk based capital requirements to be implemented for financial institutions.
All of this brings together the necessary conditions for a scientific way to approach the bond and sukuk markets.
Solving the "Valuation Dilemma" is one of the "Holy Grail" in the fixed income world. Lack of transparency perpetuates the problems of information asymmetry and discourage existing players to do more as well as becoming a substantial barrier to entry to new players.
Firms that are incapable of attaining unbiased, transparent and independent valuation of their portfolios would consequently face problems in managing risk and effectively the whole business.
Risk, return and valuation are interrelated. Valuation provides a holistic solution to counter the risk challenges of dealing with illiquidity and increasing complexity of the market. In addition, it promotes better capital return efficiency.
A laissez-faire attitude towards information can also create questions of accuracy and credibility. The onus of responsibility must be inculcated into each provider. Failure to conform to certain set standards can be costly for the market.
Unfettered right for anyone to provide data without the necessary safeguards could invite potential systemic risk for everyone.
BPA Malaysia is cognisant to this fact. The company has been working diligently for the last eight years to introduce new products and services to help market participants get the best relevant information for their fixed income and sukuk needs.
Credibility and capacity building are two focus areas for the company. Continuous open channel between the company and the market has allowed BPA Malaysia to continuously evolve its existing products and services to conform to current market needs.
For example, the coming together of Thomson Reuters and BPA Malaysia to co-brand an existing index product in late 2011, confirms our belief that the company's products are of global standards.
This arrangement for the Thomson Reuters & Bond Pricing Agency Malaysia Sukuk and Bond Indices will provide a new global window to Malaysia's sukuk and bond market. From a global perspective, BPA Malaysia is contributing to Malaysia's aspiration to be a global financial centre especially in Islamic finance.
Capacity building in terms of regulatory framework and key market infrastructure is paramount. Using sports as an example, to play any game, understanding the rules and having the correct equipment allows players to compete fairly.
In a similar vein, such an environment must be made possible to encourage participations by market players as well as entice new players into the industry.
Every jurisdiction will have their own different level of economic, legal and market maturity. However, fundamentally, ingredients for growth remain similar regardless of development stage.
Availability, transparency and credibility of information; responsible stakeholders; clear rules of conduct; and strong investor protection regime makes potent growth drivers.
There is no secret ingredient for success. By making available the right conditions market forces will take over and make full use of it. This facilitate decision making as no market can progress or even operate effectively without having the availability, transparency and credibility of information.
The value of information in any markets has become higher than capital infrastructure and people. In current times, as evident from countless financial markets' boom and bust events, it is perhaps high time for everyone to recognise information as the most important and valuable commodity not just for financial markets but the entire economy for any country.
When something as intangible as information can move markets, its value becomes immeasurable, but BPA Malaysia has done a commendable job!

In the Beginning
The
history of the world or humanity can be defined by distinct period of
advancements. To name a few as example, The Stone Age, the Agricultural
Revolution, the Islamic Golden Age, the European Renaissance, the Age of
Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution are all characterised by a
common singular cause: the explosion of information.
In the Beginning
A
relatively recent piece to the jigsaw is the introduction of the Bond
Pricing Agency concept in Malaysia. Since Bond Pricing Agency Malaysia
Sdn Bhd (or BPA Malaysia) was established in 2004, the company has
provided daily valuation for every bonds and sukuk traded in Malaysia.

Information is Golden
Revitalising
trading in the secondary market has been a goal for all market players.
Published evaluated prices (or commonly known as "mark-to-market"
prices) from a bond pricing agency acts as a price discovery system,
enabling traders to assess the feasibility of initiating a transaction.

Risk, return and valuation are interrelated. Valuation provides a holistic solution to counter the risk challenges of dealing with illiquidity and increasing complexity of the market. In addition, it promotes better capital return efficiency.
Quality versus Quantity of Information
History
has shown the importance of quality valuation. The last decade alone, a
number of financial crises in some regions of the world have shown the
importance of fully understanding the ramifications of the pricing and
valuation function. These events give a clear lesson not only why
valuation is needed but more importantly, the quality of such services,
if available, should not be taken for granted.

Conclusion
There
are a number of important lessons that could be useful for other
jurisdictions interested to replicate the Malaysian bond and sukuk
growth story.Capacity building in terms of regulatory framework and key market infrastructure is paramount. Using sports as an example, to play any game, understanding the rules and having the correct equipment allows players to compete fairly.

Hovering at 7-month highs
Source from (Business Times): http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_News/BTIMES/articles/goldsept18/Article/
Published: September 18, 2012
LONDON: Gold held around seven-month highs yesterday, having posted a fourth successive weekly gain last week, after the Federal Reserve's pledge to keep interest rates low undermined the US dollar and encouraged investor appetite for bullion.
Spot gold was steady on the day at US$1,767.79 an ounce by 1134 GMT, having risen by nearly two per cent last week in the longest stretch of weekly gains in more than a year.
The US Fed said last week it would keep rates near zero until the middle of 2015, building on its existing vow to maintain them at this level until late 2014, triggering a two per cent rise in the gold price in one day.
The central bank also committed to US$40 billion (RM158 billion) in monthly purchases of mortgage-backed securities as long as job growth was sluggish to keep borrowing rates low for homebuyers and keep credit flowing through the financial system.
"The market has to consolidate the gains it has made since the end
of August. That has been already a significant move upwards for the
various precious metals, so if we do not see US$1,800 (in gold) this
week, that would not be a problem as, nevertheless, the signs are that
precious metals prices are moving higher," Peter Fertig, a consultant
for Quantitative Commodity Research, said.
Gold has risen by 13.2 per cent so far in 2012, putting it on course for an eleventh yearly price increase.
"At around US$1,770 a troy ounce, gold is trading close to the 61/2 month high it reached on Friday. It is not only ETF investors who have been contributing to the rising prices ... but increasingly also speculative financial investors," Commerzbank analysts wrote in a note.
Platinum fell by 0.2 per cent on the day to US$1,691.99an ounce, having gained in ten of the prior eleven trading sessions.
Aquarius Platinum's Kroondal platinum mine and Xstrata's chrome mine near Rustenburg restarted on Monday and world number one producer Anglo American Platinum said it would restart operations today.
Operations were still suspended at Lonmin, the world's third-largest platinum producer.
Since the strike broke out at Lonmin, platinum has gained nearly a quarter in value to trade at its highest since late February.
Palladium was down nearly two per cent on the day at US$683.10, while silver was down 0.4 per cent at US$34.50 an ounce. Reuters

Gold price hovers near highest in almost 7 months
Source from (The Star Online): http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/9/18/business/12041508&sec=business
Published: September 18, 2012
SINGAPORE: Gold held near an almost seven-month high, as the US Federal Reserve's latest stimulus move to spur the economy led to a rush for bullion a traditional hedge against inflation.
Gold, which has risen for the last four weeks, could breach this year's peak around US$1,790 an ounce as the United States prints more money to buy assets, driving up the outlook for inflation and weighing on the dollar.
Gold added US$5.33 an ounce to US$1,774.79 after rising as high as US$1,777.51 on Friday, its highest since late February when it hit this year's peak.
“Gold is still pretty bullish this week. I think gold prices will remain firm and probably test the high set in February,” Lynette Tan, an analyst at Phillip Futures in Singapore. “Buyers are still buying gold, but it seems that profit taking may occur later.”
A Reuters poll showed the Fed will buy a total US$600bil of bonds under its new stimulus programme, known as quantitative easing or QE3, and will look for a US unemployment rate of 7% before it halts the programme.
US gold for December rose 0.28% to US$1,777.60 an ounce as the dollar languished near a seven-month trough versus a basket of major currencies.
The dollar index stood at 78.878, having fallen as far as 78.601 on Friday, a level not seen since late February. It has shed some 6% from a 24-month high of 84.100 in July. A softer dollar makes commodities priced in the greenback cheaper for holders of other currencies.
Silver tracked gold higher and held near its strongest since March. Platinum was near multi-month highs even after Anglo American Platinum said it wouold resume work this week at its strike-hit Rustenburg operations.
Higher prices spurred selling in the physical sector, but bullion was likely to find support at around US$1,750 an ounce, dealers said.
“We've seen some selling, but it's not heavy. We saw early selling from the Middle East this morning, but Thailand and Indonesia are a bit quiet,” said a dealer in Singapore.
“Premiums are still at 20 to 40 cents. You can't go cheaper than this because the premiums are already low. But we expect more selling this week. Thai may be selling more gold scraps.” - Reuters

AIM dedah formula kejayaan

AIM ditubuhkan pada 17 September 1987 melalui Surat Cara Perjanjian AIM dan didaftarkan di bawah Akta Amanah (Pemerbadanan) 1952.

Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia - Jana RM2,500 sebulan

Ikuti temu bual wartawan Bisnes Metro, Sri Ayu Kartikawati Amri bersama Ketua Pegawai Operasi AIM, Halid Hasbullah Boestamam bagi berkongsi pendekatan diguna pakai AIM.

- BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- International mining company, Olympus
Pacific Minerals Inc., which is undertaking a feasibility study on the
Bau Goldfield, near Jugan Hill in Sarawak, says prospects are bright for
the goldfield to emerge as an important gold producer in Southeast
Asia.

Aktiviti Barang Kemas Dijangka Alami Penurunan Ekoran Pengguna Berjimat

Kopemat Aims To Penetrate Competitive Honey Market
Source from (Bernama): http://www.bernama.com/bernama/v6/newsbusiness.php?id=691248

KUALA TERENGGANU, Sept 1 (Bernama) -- Koperasi Pemungut Madu Lebah Asli Terengganu Bhd (Kopemat) aims to be actively involved in penetrating the competitive local honey market this year.
The co-op, which was set up last year, acted as an agent to help honey collectors market their honey.
Its deputy chairman, Ibrahim Ismail, said the co-op needed a revolving capital of at least RM100,000 initially to achieve its aim.
"What has become a problem of Kopemat now is that the honey output in Terengganu is not consistent. This could be due to the weather and the honey prices also move up and down," he told Bernama here today.
Ibrahim said Kopemat usually bought up to RM250,000 worth of honey from the collectors in Terengganu.
However, this year's output has declined and Kopemat bought less than 500 kg from the collectors in the state.
"The decline in honey output not only happened in Terengganu but also in other states.
"Previously, we will be able to collect eight metric tonnes of honey each season," he said.
He said Terengganu's honey fetched between RM40 and RM50 a bottle and the most popular was the Tualang honey.
Ibrahim said Marang produced about 80 per cent of the honey in the state.
"This is because the district has Gelam and Akasia trees which attracted the bees," he said.
He said the bees were usually active in producing honey between June and November and during these months the honey collectors would be very busy.
"After that they would have to find other jobs like fishing or farming," he said.
Ibrahim said Terengganu has about 600 honey collectors and only 70 of them were members of the co-op.
"Currently, the co-op is undertaking a campaign to attract more honey collectors to become its members. They only need to pay RM10 fee," he said.

Lesen pasar raya dikeluar semula?
Source from (Utusan Malaysia): http://www.utusan.com.my/utusan/Ekonomi/20120901/ek_01/Lesen-pasar-raya-dikeluar-semula
